decrease toxicity
Irinotecan is a chemotherapeutic agent that could be stopped because of its major side effect (mucositis). The gut microbiota may play a beneficial role in lowering irinotecan toxicity. High fiber diets increase the level of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, which successfully decreased mucositis symptoms, while a low fiber diet worsened mucositis by increasing the level of Enterobacteriaceae.
