| The gut microbiota metabolizes curcumin to compounds that have neuroprotective activity. There is a bidirectional interaction between curcumin and the microbiota: - Curcumin significantly alters the abundance of members of the families Bacteroidaceae, Prevotellaceae (more specifically genera Prevotella, Bacteroides). - The gut microbiota were shown to metabolize curcumin to compounds that could be used against Alzheimer's diseases. |
