Olanzapine is an antipsychotic drug causes weight gain side effect in patients. This study shows accelerated weight gain in olanzapine-high fat diet wild-type mice compared to olanzapine-high fat germ-free mice. Dysbiosis caused by olanzapine can be responsible for this side effect. High abundance of Firmicutes and Proteobacteria while low abundance of Bacteroidetes were observed after olanzapine treatment. Olanzapine -invitro- has antimicrobial activity inhibiting Escherichia coli growth and delaying in Enterococcus faecalis reaching log phase.
