A dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor, methotrexate, is widely used in leukemia and many types of cancer. After intraperitoneal administration of tritiumlabeled methotrexate (3 mg/kg), a less toxic less active metabolite was found 4-amino-4-deoxy-N10-methylpteroic acid (APA). This study suggests extensive metabolite of methotrexate by CDF1 mice gut microbiota to its metabolite 4-amino-4-deoxy-N10-methylpteroic acid (APA) happened.
