Levamisole is an anthelmintic drug in veterinary medicine. It is metabolites in vivo to 2-oxo-3-(2mercaptoethyl)-5-phenylimidazoline which is more potant than levamisole itself. Some species of the gut microbiota extensively metabolized levamisole as Bacteroides and Clostridium.
