Lactitol can decrease the levels of plasma endotoxin more effectively than standard medical treatment in patients with chronic viral hepatitis through improving the intestinal microbiota. The numbers of bacteria from genera Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are significantly increased and Clostridium perfringens counts are decreased on lactinol use.
