Mefenamic acid was shown to be mainly eliminated through biodegradation. A study compared the biodegradation potential of three degrading microbial consortia: an ammonium-nitrite-oxidizing consortium, a nitrite-oxidizing consortium, and a heterotrophic consortium. The ammonium-nitrite-oxidizing consortium showed the highest ability (85%) to biodegrade mefenamic acid, followed by the heterotrophic consortium (66%). |
