Summary Gut microbes (currently unknown members) increase benzoisoquinoline's bioavailability.
Gut
benzoisoquinoline (PubChem CID: 160447)
unknown

increase bioavailability
Gut microbes metabolize berberine (a plant-derived benzoisoquinoline alkaloid), allowing its intestinal absorption. It was found that nitroreductases of the gut microbiota convert BBR into dihydroberberine (dhBBR) (which has an intestinal absorption rate 5-fold that of BBR in animals).
